They will learn to think formally about a problem and to adress it critically using data.

Learning to work in a team. Oral and written presentations.

Goals

The aim of this course is to provide students with skills and practice to:

- Use econometrics, statistics and economic theory to analyse issues of global significance
- Increase awareness of the breadth of questions addressed by economists
- Critically assess academic and policy material related to economics
- Build a common identity among ESL/ESN students


Pre-requisite:
LECGE 1316 - Econométrie, or similar
LECGE1212 Macroéconomie or similar
LECGE1222 Microéconomie or similar

Assessment method

Students will be evaluated continuously throughout the course. They will receive a single grade for the course at the end of Q2. The final grade will take into account the following components:


A replication exercise (35%)
In-class quizzes (15%)
Presentations of progress on the projects (15%)
Poster session (10%)
Project writeup (30%)
Participation in class activities (5%)

Participation will be evaluated based on attendance at lectures, participation in discussions during lectures and on Moodle, and peer-evaluations of team work by group mates.
The replication exercise can be retaken during the January session in case of failure.
The project can be resubmitted at the August session in case of failure.
All other evaluations can not be retaken.
