In terms of knowledge, the aim of the course is to enable students to become familiar with the various sources of information and to identify their specific features. Students must also develop a critical approach to information sources. They should also be able to apply this approach to concrete cases and take a critical look at information and the way it is communicated.
The course looks at the different sources of information and uses practical exercises to help students develop a method for critiquing these sources. Theory and practice are interwoven throughout the course.
Topics covered during the sessions :
Reflection on information practices
Information sources: the Internet and the news media
Those involved in the media and in the production of information
Sources and errors
Information manipulation: rumours, fake news and conspiracy theory
Quantitative data and illustrations
Practical part :
Completion of several pieces of group work during the session on the theme covered during the session.
Students who only have to attend 15 hours of the course will only take part in certain sessions (see timetable presented during the first lesson).
Assessment is twofold, involving both marks obtained during group work sessions and an in-session examination.
The course bibliography is provided during the session.
The presentation materials used in the course are also available on the webcampus.
