The course aims at developing several skills of analytical, practical and expressive nature.
- Unpack common knowledge and prejudices on three of the most controversial concepts in political science (populism, extremism, democracy)
- Provide theoretical and conceptual tools to define, identify and analyse populist and extremist phenomena
- Analyse and historicize the rise of contemporary populist and extremist movements
- Compare populist movements across time and space
- Critical analysis of the dominant discourse on populism and extremism
The ex-cathedra sessions are divided into four different chapters :
- Populism
- Far right
- Radical left
- Case studies
The evaluation combines a final exam (10 points) and collective and individual exercises :
- A collective written report on a thematic file (8 points)
- Individual reading notes and participation in ex-cathedra discussions (2 points)
