Goals

Technologies are having an important impact on our society. This includes an impact on the professional activities of workers at all levels. As future managers, the students need to be able to have a critical stand on the implementation of a technology in a company and its economic, social, and environmental impacts. The goal of the Emerging Technologies for Smart Management course is to prepare students by introducing them to a large selection of technologies and encouraging them to research and criticize these technologies.

Content

The course is structured around 7 technologies that have applications in business: (1) virtual and augmented reality, (2) tools for collaborative work and prototyping, (3) artificial intelligence, (4) robots and drones, (5) Internet of Things, (6) digital twins, and (7) cloud computing. Each technology is the topic of one course and is discussed through an ex-cathedra presentation covering technical aspects and limitations of the technology, a presentation of existing business applications with Q/A by a group of students, and if appropriate and possible, a demonstration of the technology by the professor or an external speaker / an interactive visit of a lab working with the technology. The last course is dedicated to a poster session where students groups will present a poster showcasing a technology or a business application of a technology of their choosing.
