Goals

The main objective of this course is oral production with and without interaction. The target level is B2/B2+.

Content

The course offers various activities aimed at actively participating in a conversation or debate in a small group and presenting a short oral presentation. There are also activities to improve comprehension of specialised language and listening comprehension.

Teaching methods

The first semester will be devoted to building confidence and developing communication skills in interactive situations. Before each session, students will be required to prepare part of the material that will serve as the basis for guided oral expression. Oral activities will take place in small groups, under the supervision of the teacher.

The second semester will be devoted to structured oral presentations. After theoretical coaching on presentation issues and techniques, each student will be required to give their own oral presentation on a topic related to their final dissertation or area of specialisation.

Assessment method

This course unit is subject to continuous assessment, comprising various tests and assignments administered throughout the academic year:

  • Q1: Written examination in January, covering the material of Q1 (40%)
  • Q2: Compulsory oral presentation in Q2, accompanied by an abstract (35%) + Oral examination in June (25%)

The weighting of the components is indicative. The final grade will also take into account the following considerations:

  • Non-completion of any component will automatically result in failure.
  • The oral presentation must be delivered in Q2; failure to do so renders it non-redeemable in the resit session.
  • Active participation during the course, as well as the demonstrated likelihood of success in further learning, will influence grade rounding and may adjust the final mark.

In the event of failure, grades obtained in successfully completed components may be carried over to the resit session, but not to the subsequent academic year.

Attention: Please note that successful completion of this course unit does not in itself confer certification.
