At the end of this course, the student will be able to analyse grammatically, translate and comment on texts of a medium level of difficulty. He/she will be able to explain the context of the text and to identify its human values.
To improve students' language skills, develop their analytical and translation abilities and enable them to become familiar with the masterpieces of Greek literature.
Study of works by Greek authors This course covers the following topics: 1. The translation of works by Greek authors 2. Explanation of grammar points (morphology, syntax); 3. The commentary highlighting the context of the work, as well as the documentary and human values of the message transmitted.
Oral examination on the texts seen in the course.
1. The basic text is that of the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae, in this case, for Herodotus, that of Legrand's edition in Belles Lettres (Collection des Universités de France). A selective bibliography on the author and the themes covered will be provided to students as part of the course. Grammar reference : D. Planque, Grammaire grecque, 8th edition, Namur, 1977 (available in pdf version). Students will be provided with a basic vocabulary.
