To discover, know and understand the main vertebrate animal tissues (structure and function) in order to be able to position them in the main organs of vertebrate animal systems in Special Histology, Physiology and Anatomy.
Use the basics of animal cell biology (Cytology) to know and understand the morphology of different animal tissues, mainly vertebrates, and relate them to their functions. Become able to integrate them into organs and later relate them to their dysfunctions in pathology courses.

If the number of students or health conditions allow, thirty multiple-choice questions (with 5 options each) will make up the theoretical exam. The result of this test (+1 for each correct answer, -0.25 for each wrong answer, and 0 for any unanswered question) produces a numerical value out of 20 (X/20), which is used to calculate the final grade as described below.
The exact evaluation methods may be modified when scheduling exams, depending on the practical constraints that the faculty administration may face, or in case of illness/force majeure/overlap with an internship, preventing the student from taking the exam on the initially scheduled date.
A practical exam must achieve a result equal to or greater than 10/20. If the practical exam score is at least three points higher than the theory score, the final result is awarded an additional point (final grade = X+1/20). If it is at least six points higher, the final result receives two additional points (final grade = X+2/20). However, a failing practical score of 9/20 reduces the final grade by 1 point (X-1/20), a score of 8/20 reduces it by 2 points (X-2/20), a score of 7/20 reduces it by 3 points (X-3/20), a score of 6/20 reduces it by 4 points (X-4/20), and so on.
Special cases and exemptions:
In the event that the student is unable to take the exam for a justified reason (force majeure, medical certificate), the student will contact the instructor (and the secretariat), who will reschedule the exam at a later date, within the time limits provided by the R.E.E. (Regulations on Exams and Evaluations).
A student who has not earned the credits for the Teaching Unit but has obtained a grade equivalent to or higher than 10/20 in one of the Learning Activities will automatically receive a partial deferment (REPA) for the Learning Activity concerned within the same academic year. However, the student may waive the REPA benefit in order to try to improve their result by retaking the Learning Activity. By accepting this responsibility, if the outcome results in a less favorable result, the student cannot claim the right to their initial grade or the deferment.
A General Histology syllabus covers the material in this course (Yves Poumay). The illustrations are available on Webcampus. The histological slides are all accessible via the web at www.histology.be.
