Bees and pollinating insects play a key role in maintaining biodiversity and ecosystems. Several beehives have been installed on the Haugimont territory.
Teaching apiary in the Department of Veterinary Medicine
Four beehives have been installed with the dual intention of contributing to local biodiversity and offering a new teaching tool for university students. Christine Baricalla and François Damien, technicians at CRO and experienced beekeepers, care for the bees that have joined the many animals already present on the site. The apiary will also be open to interdisciplinary research collaborations and the honey valorized within the university.
Other apiaries
Open to the surrounding area, the estate is also home to the hives of local private beekeepers. These gladly take part in the activities offered to the public during events, such as the apple festival and its traditional marauding, offering an exhibition on bees.
