At the end of thie module, student will be able:
· To understand the emergence of Humane Management as a result of a critique of traditional HRM models and practices, and organizational behavior.
· To interpret contemporary organizational and managerial phenomena through critical analysis.
· To approach the notions of motivation, satisfaction, commitment and involvement at work.
· To identify and mobilize the conditions to produce meaningful work and recognition at work.
· To interpret the complexity of individual-organization links (e.g. psychological contract, sense of belonging, governance, work community).
· To identify and differentiate the different HR activities, policies and practices with the view position these in a Humane Management perspective.
The module aims to analyze the HR and managerial practices which contribute to performance. Throughout the course, both managerial rationale and rhetoric will be investigated to explain the presence or absence of such practices but also their links with the context; their influence on the human behavior at work as well as the implications for managers.
Such a critical perspective allows to introduce the perspective of Humane Management by introducing its core components (objective, collective and subjective work; a particular conception of the human) and its purpose (recognition at work) in order to embody the management of human beings in line with contemporary societal changes. In this perspective, the module aims to develop students’ reflexivity as well as their managerial skills.
More specifically, the module will be organized around the following contents:
1. Humane Management and Work Transformations
2. Work engagement: Motivation, Meaningful work and Recognition at work
3. The Individual-Organization Link: From Contract to Community
4. Ethics and Professional Conduct in People Management
5. Humane Management and the Manager's occupation
6. Humane Management and Strategy: From Value Creation to Additional Value
A written exam composed of a multiple-choice questionnaire, open questions, reflection or application questions related to the different concepts studied during the course will assess the learning outcomes.
