The aim of this learning activity is to show the student of the 2nd Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine the many possibilities that are open to the veterinarian in his professional life. The interdisciplinary seminars provide a more comprehensive overview of these possibilities, while the socio-professional investigations give the student the opportunity to analyse a professional situation in detail.
Socio-professional surveys: Using the analytical tools acquired during the Baccalaureate 1 philosophy course, the aim is to place the very specific world of veterinary surgeons in the context of a more global reflection on science, health, the industrialisation of the rural world and urban organisation. Therefore, the work consists first of all, in the Baccalaureate 2 seminar, of carrying out a socio-professional survey, grouped by theme, among veterinary surgeons and specialised organisations, and based on specialised documents and literature. Interdisciplinary seminar courses in human education: This course is given simultaneously to 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students. As students follow this course for two consecutive years, they have the opportunity to attend a cycle of 18 seminars. The 9 annual seminars are given by guest speakers and are each followed by a debate. The topics covered are ethics, ethology, public health, human-animal relations, agricultural economics and professional issues.
Socio-professional surveys: After a presentation of the objectives of the course - which takes the form of a seminar course - and of the methodology of the surveys, which are the subject of files on subjects relating to veterinary practices and veterinary medicine in society, the students work in thematic groups and are already evaluated on their investment. The surveys are subject to continuous evaluation by the teacher. They end with the writing of a synthesis containing a common part and an individual part where each student of the group presents his personal conclusions. Interdisciplinary seminar-courses in human education: The students of the 2nd baccalaureate are evaluated in the 3rd baccalaureate (January session) on the whole two years. As this evaluation is based on reflection sheets written by the student after each seminar, attendance at all seminars of the two years is required; absence without valid justification will lead to a postponement to the subsequent session in the 3rd baccalaureate.
Documents specific to the student's subject will be recommended for reading.
