Learning outcomes

This teaching activity is reserved for students who finish their first cycle at the end of the academic year concerned. A student is at the end of his or her cycle when his or her EAP includes the last teaching units (TUs) for which he or she must acquire credits in order to obtain the academic degree.

At the end of the exercise, the student will have been introduced to the reading of scientific articles. They will have developed analytical and synthesis skills to build a structured report on the chosen biomedical topic. The student will have been able to present the results of his/her work, in writing and orally, in a precise and structured manner.

Goals

Develop

- its scientific curiosity

- its critical thinking

- its analytical capacity

- its ability to synthesise.

Content

This teaching activity is reserved for students who finish their first cycle at the end of the academic year concerned. The teaching activity will start with a theoretical-practical training in literature search and bibliographic reference management. The student will be given a biomedical question, proposed by the course supervisors. The question will enable him/her to conduct a bibliographic search, to carry out a critical analysis of scientific articles and the construction of a review on the subject of the biomedical question.

Assessment method

The student will be required to provide a written statement on the subject of the original biomedical question. He/she will then have to make an oral presentation, with visual support, of the fruit of his/her work. At the end of this presentation, a jury will ask questions. The answers provided by the student will be an opportunity for him/her to demonstrate his/her indepth knowledge of the subject. The jury will evaluate the student's work as a whole. The supervisor's assessment will count for 50% of the final grade. In the second session, the evaluation modalities remain similar. The exact modalities of the evaluation are subject to change, depending on the practical constraints that the faculty administration may face (illness, force majeure, coronavirus-related health situation)
