1) situate certain canonical Western texts chronologically,
2)describe them in their historical context and according to their literary genre and current,
3)recognize and define the most widespread or historically important literary currents and genres in the West,
4)contextualize them with respect to a historical period or a philosophical/artistic trend,
5) master key notions of literary history
Using concepts and issues that may vary from year to year, this course offers an overview of the history of Western literature, with an emphasis on certain major works. It also aims to familiarize students with essential literary notions.
