Goals

• Broaden the scope of grammatical knowledge • Mobilise this new knowledge to apply it to analysis and translation exercises on unseen texts • Apply a heuristic and critical approach to Latin linguistics • Approach the reading of a pre-classical author (Sallustus)

Content

• Lexical, morphological and syntactic revision • Elements of Latin stylistics • Use of determiners and pronouns • Introduction to the prosody and scansion of the dactylic hexameter and the elegiac distich • Cursive readings: Q1, Sallustus; Q2, to be defined

Assessment method

• Regular tests during the course sessions worth one fifth of the final grade • Written test of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in June worth two fifths of the final mark • Oral tests in January and June on cursive, each worth one fifth of the final grade
