"Hamilton is a scientist of our time: underfunded, he finds himself forced to take part in the Physiciades if he wants to save his research. Frankly a lab rat, he wonders how he's going to win this sporting competition where the world's physics elite compete". It's around this fictional character Hamilton that Michaël Lobet, André Fuzfa and Jean-Marc Dubois will develop "Physix: l'énergie", an educational comic strip on the theme of energy, revisited through sport, Hamilton's gaffes and time travel. A project that blends educational and scientific objectives!

The project's authors tell us more:

Why the comic book format?

The originality of the approach to disseminating knowledge using the "comic strip" medium makes it possible both to stimulate interest in science and to encourage the learning of scientific concepts. The reader's imagination is placed at the service of his or her reasoning, which also characterizes the scientific approach.

"The entry point chosen by this project to reinforce interest in science is twofold: on the one hand, the choice of a current theme - energy - to convey knowledge, and on the other, the addition of a science fiction component to capture the reader's attention," explain the project's sponsors.

Why energy?

Energy is a central concept in physics, opening up not only to its many variations (thermodynamics, astrophysics, mechanics, quantum physics and relativity) but also to other sciences, not forgetting that energy is also a major issue in our society. This project therefore aims to produce a comic strip, based on a structuring narrative, that takes the readership on a discovery of physics, its applications, implications and current research questions.

Who is this comic intended for and what stage of production is it at?

It will be aimed primarily at a "student" audience ranging from secondary 4 to the first year of higher education. The idea is to provide them with prerequisites and knowledge in physics, as well as to give them a taste for science. The script is finished, the cutting is in progress, and the first boards will be produced very soon.

The Wernaers Fund to support the popularization of science
