Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be able to : • Choose and use representative business modelling languages (Entity-Relationship, BPMN, Archimate, ...) • Model a case study correctly. • Motivating modelling decisions. • Apply the rules of good practice of the trade.

Goals

Modelling is a crucial issue for any IT project. The course aims at mastering (know-how) the modelling activity applied to different aspects of organisations (strategy, processes, information, resources, ...). This mastery is based on the knowledge of representative modelling languages and on the methods to be applied to build models with these languages.

Content

The following topics are covered during the course: • Basic principles of modelling (fundamental notions of modelling, model definition, model quality, introduction to meta-modelling, etc.). • Principles and frameworks of enterprise architectures (views, abstraction levels, ...). • Languages and methods for information modelling. • Languages and methods for process modelling. • Languages and methods for modelling enterprise architectures

Assessment method

• Written examination on knowledge and skills. Failure to demonstrate certain critical skills may result in failure of the assessment, regardless of the weighted average obtained. These skills are explained during the course. • Completion of a case study during the year.
