Learning outcomes

At the end of the course and practical work, the student will have acquired knowledge of the factors that promote and hinder the pharmacist-patient relationship, both in the dispensary and in the hospital. The importance of the pharmacist's listening role will be emphasized.

Students will also learn about verbal and non-verbal communication skills that can facilitate interaction with patients. The value of a structured approach to pharmaceutical consultation will be highlighted.

Finally, the student will have had the opportunity to exercise his or her interpersonal skills through role-playing.

 

Content

- Introduction to communication and the pharmacist-patient relationship: obstacles to communication, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, a structured approach to pharmaceutical consultation.

- The importance of communication and the pharmacist-patient relationship in the dispensary

- Relationship difficulties and how to deal with them

- The dialogue between the clinical pharmacist in hospital and his patient

Description of exercises

- In-office observation of the pharmacist-patient relationship

- Discussion with a dispensing pharmacist on relational difficulties that may arise during a pharmaceutical interview.

- Role-playing the pharmacist-patient relationship in a teaching pharmacy

- Self-critical analysis of personal videos captured during role-playing.

 

Assessment method

Assessment consists of a written assignment based on the various activities carried out during the year's practical work.

Attendance at lectures, observation in the dispensary AND completion of the role-playing game are compulsory conditions for submitting the paper and passing the UE.
