To teach the legal answers to the questions linked to new threats and risks for privacy and personal data raised by the technological developments
Familiarize students with the data protection regime arising from the European Data Protection Regulation (RGPD), Belgian laws supplementing it, European case law, as well as rules specific to electronic communications and surveillance.
This course is justified by the growing impact of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) on society, democracy and individual freedoms.

This course focuses on privacy and personal data protection in the current technical developments context (creation of data bases, videosurveillance, danger for privacy deriving from the Internet, controls on the workplace, connected objects, Internet of Things, Big Data,...). The course presents the regulation adopted in response to these new dangers as well as the most important case-law.

Evaluation is by oral examination (100%) based on an analysis of a concrete case, with 15 to 20 minutes preparation time and a presentation in front of the 3 teachers followed by more specific questions.
