Biography

Jérémy Dodeigne is Professor of Political Science at the University of Namur. Since January 2020, he has also been President of the Transitions research institute. Between 2015 and 2017, he was a visiting researcher at Oxford University, Edinburgh University, Pompeu Fabra University and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has also been a guest lecturer at ULiège and UCLouvain.

His research focuses on the recruitment of political staff and their political behaviour, from a comparative and historical perspective. More recently, he has extended his research programme to the study of the personalisation of political life and transformations in political communication in European democracies. In his projects, he has used both quantitative analyses (with a recent focus on content analysis techniques via deep learning & supervised algorithms) and qualitative methods (narrative interviews with elites).

In 2023, he obtained European Starting Grant funding from the European Research Council (ERC) for the POLSTYLE project, which studies the transformations of political style since the 1960s in Europe. Under F.R.S.-FNRS funding, he is also coordinator of the Evolv'EP - MEPs Behaviour project, the IntraPartyComp project and the BLESS 2024 (Belgian Local Elections StudieS) project. In the past, he has directed and participated in several national and international research projects (NotLikeUS, PartiRep II, Pathways, European Mayor, ADAPOV, Belgian MP surveys, Belgian Exist Poll 2018, Local Party Offer 2012-2018). His research appears in scientific journals such as Journal of Common Market Studies, European Union Politics, West European Politics, Party Politics, Electorales Studies, American Behavioral Scientist, Swiss Review of Political Science, Publius: Journal of Federalism, Local Government Studies, Regional & Federal Studies, Government & Opposition, Representation, Journal of Language and Politics.

As part of his service to society, he regularly speaks to the public authorities on issues of political representation and electoral reform (Federal Parliament, Walloon Parliament, Walloon Government, communes, ASBLs for continuing education, etc.) and in the media.
