Jean-Marie Baland

About

Biography

I have been a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Namur since 1991. My research interests focus on least developed countries, and include the analysis of informal institutions (for which I received an ERC Advanced grant in 2009), the determinants of deforestation and the consequences of poverty. My more recent research projects focus on the causes of infant mortality in South Asia, the determinants of domestic violence and the analysis of life expectancy as an essential component of well-being in a context of poverty.
