About
Biography
My areas of expertise initially developed around a fundamental axis, which can be summed up as the need to understand how it is possible to articulate logical and scientific rationality with practical rationality, which is based on knowledge that presupposes faith, moral certainty and affectivity, without distorting either of them. The study of ancient and medieval philosophy, particularly patristics, has been and remains my favourite area (research on Clement of Alexandria, Aristotle, Plotinus, Augustine, Pseudo-Denys the Areopagite, Robert Grosseteste, Thomas Aquinas).
Then, teaching philosophy of art led me to broaden the scope of my research to include aesthetics. I joined the FNRS Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art Contact Group, with which I have collaborated regularly. My main interest is in the study of classical beauty and the aesthetics of the ancient and medieval periods, and the relationship between these aesthetics and contemporary art.
Since 2010, a new interest has been added to my research. It concerns anthropological and ethical questions linked to the issues of vulnerability and the ethics of care.
Recently, research in the field of ethics has focused on the question of the common good and the commons.
