The student should be able to: - Understand the different stages of a research process in economics and management - Building a research question - Identify and synthesise literature to answer a research question - To write a research paper that puts into perspective the different elements of response provided by the literature by structuring them in a coherent way - Defending a research paper orally
The Research Methods in Economics and Management course aims to prepare students as effectively as possible for carrying out a research project of a certain scope.
The Research Methods in Economics and Management course is designed as a preparation for the realization of a research work of a certain scope. The course includes the identification of a research question, preferably in a field close to the one that the student intends to address in the framework of his or her Master 120 thesis. The student will write a paper in which he/she will motivate his/her research question (why is it important to study the chosen topic?), write a literature review, and interpret the literature by clearly linking it to the research question. They will then defend their work orally.
The assessment of the course is based on the quality of the written work and the oral defence. The following criteria are used to assess the course: 1. Scientific approach: To what extent are the following conditions met? - the precision and relevance of the research question - the relevance and consistency of the literature review,
- the ability to explain precisely how the literature leads to results, the rigor of the analysis and the consistency of the interpretation, - meeting deadlines and integrating feedback into the final work 2. Form: Is the work written in a clear, concise and grammatically and spelling correct manner? Was the oral presentation clear? Did the oral defence indicate a good command of the subject? Plagiarism, as defined in the Study and Examination Regulations, is considered as fraud and is subject to sanctions, the minimum sanction being a mark of 0/20. The same mark of 0/20 will be given to a student who has not designed his or her own work.
