The NARC was established by the Board of Trustees in 2012 with a dual objective:

  • To provide an environment that enables a few outstanding young researchers to devote the bulk of their working time to research, while being spared administrative, logistical and other day-to-day burdens;
  • To ensure the visibility of the best researchers both inside and outside the institution.

Namur Research College Fellows are selected on their own merits, based on a series of rigorous criteria. Fellows' achievements are assessed by independent experts.

NARC Fellows 2023

Alison Forrester (NARILIS Institute) and Olivier Sartenaer (ESPHIN Institute) both received FNRS-MIS funding for scientific research. Lieven Vandelanotte (Institut NaLTT) has been awarded a Francqui research professorship. Their mandate began in October 2023 for a period of 2 years.

Alison Forrester

Alison Forrester is a Qualified Researcher at the FNRS. Her research group is based in the Cell Biology Research Unit (URBC). She obtained her PhD in Toxicology and Dermatology at Newcastle University (UK). Her work has been published in leading journals such as Nature, Nature Chemical Biology and EMBO Journal.

Olivier Sartenaer

Olivier Sartenaer, lecturer at the University of Namur, obtained a master's degree in physics and philosophy and defended his doctoral thesis in philosophy in 2013 at UCLouvain. His research is in the field of philosophy of science, and focuses mainly on the themes of emergence and reductionism in the natural sciences, from both an epistemological and a metaphysical point of view.

Lieven Vandelanotte

Lieven Vandelanotte is Professor of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Namur, and Research Fellow in Linguistics at KU Leuven, where he obtained his PhD in 2005. He currently heads the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, and is a member of the NaLTT Institute Steering Committee.
