The Board of Directors of the University of Namur made official at its meeting on 13/12/2019 the creation of a "dual-use" ethics committee as a local body to advise on ethical aspects concerning all "dual-use items", whether material, technological or software-type.
Procedure
The SPW guidelines on this subject are detailed in the "guidelines" document available on the intranet.
It is up to researchers to ask themselves about the potential risks of using their research for activities prohibited by third parties. The decision tree presented below can guide researchers in this regard.
If a waiver appears necessary, the form concerning "dual-use" ethics, duly completed, should be emailed to the Vice-Rectorate for Research.

Forms for requesting an opinion from the dual-use committee are available on the intranet.
After analysis, the ethics committee decides whether the case falls within the scope of this legislation. If so, the Vice-Rector for Research forwards the file to the SPW.
