In the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, higher education establishments and players gravitate around a number of structures, networks and alliances with the aim of guaranteeing a coherent and complementary educational offering and encouraging collaboration while respecting the autonomies of each and every one. The University of Namur is fully committed to this approach and is actively involved in various structures established in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Alliance universitaire Louvain Namur together
Since September 2023, the University of Namur and UCLouvain have formed a university alliance. This Louvain Namur ensemble (AULNE) university alliance brings together 48,000 students, or almost 45% of university students in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, as well as over 8,000 staff members. The aim? Accentuate existing collaborations in research and teaching to aim for ever greater quality and relevance, for the benefit of students and society. In concrete terms, this is not a merger, but a coming together to defend shared values and a common university model.
The Academy for Research and Higher Education
The Académie de Recherche et d'Enseignement supérieur (ARES) is the federation of higher education establishments in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Its missions are to:
- Guarantee the public service mission of general interest of higher education
- Support the establishments and ensure their overall coordination in their missions of teaching, research and service to the community
- Suscitate collaboration between them, while respecting their autonomy
The French Rectors' Council
The Council of Rectors (CREF) brings together the rectors of the academic institutions of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Its main activities are to:
- Develop exchanges and consultation between universities and university institutions, in particular between the Rectors;
- Collect and process all useful information concerning all university institutions, in particular, by constituting for this purpose and managing several databases according to established rules;
- Proceed with studies and research concerning all universities and university institutions and their cooperation;
- Secure, within the limits set, the communication and publication of data, information or results of work available to it.
Namur academic center
The Pôle académique de Namur (PAN) brings together all the higher education establishments located in the province of Namur. Its aim is to ensure the quality and coherence of higher education provision within its territory.
