Learning outcomes

The course provides students (for whom German is not their mother tongue) with the necessary elements to reach the level of an A2/B1 user according to the CECRL criteria.

Goals

On the one hand, the course aims to deepen some of the themes addressed in a rather superficial way in the first semester (e. g. transitive and intransitive verbs, modal verbs, passive voice, etc.). On the other hand, the course aims to familiarize students with the terminology of German linguistics, the theory of word formation, as well as the basics of phonetics and phonology.

Content

The course consists of three modules:

Module 1: In order to facilitate the exercises in the language laboratory (exercises organized as part of LALLB102 'Maîtrise de la langue allemande'), the course begins with an introduction to the phonetics and phonology of the German language.

Module 2: The second module deals with the terminology of German linguistics. This module aims to deepen some of the themes addressed in a rather superficial way in the first semester (e. g. transitive and intransitive verbs, modality verbs, passive voice, etc.).

Module 3: The third module is devoted entirely to word formation.

The theory that is offered in the course is supplemented by many exercises.

Exercices

In addition to the exercises that help will students to apply the theory presented in each of the 3 modules, the teaching team also ensures that exercises (e. g. translation exercises) are included that allow students to apply and perfect the skills they acquired in LALLB105 ‘Initiation à la langue allemande’.

Assessment method

1. Written exam in June (the terms, conditions and evaluation criteria are described in a separate document that will be available on WebCampus in February; they will be commented on by the professors).

2. Permanent evaluation on the basis of tests (concerning modules 2 and 3). The practical organization of the tests and the assessment procedures are described in a separate document that will be available on WebCampus by the end of February at the latest and that will be commented on by the persons responsible for the exercises.
