Learning outcomes

At the end of the teaching activities, the student will have learned to access scientific knowledge sources; he/she will have learned to describe the anatomical structures of the human body in a precise, clear and rigorous way, as well as to memorize the technical terms specific to medicine; he/she will have developed a vision of the anatomical structures in the three dimensions of space.

Goals

The objective of the course is the study of the descriptive, topographical and functional anatomy of the locomotor system and the peripheral nervous system

Students need to acquire clear and well-structured knowledge, where memorization plays an essential role.

Content

The different parts of the course are articulated as follows: osteology (the skeleton), arthrology (the joints), myology (the striated skeletal muscles) and anatomy of the peripheral nervous system (the spinal nerves)

Assessment method

The anatomy examination is oral, and the student must make a spontaneous presentation in which he/she demonstrates the knowledge he/she has acquired; during the examination, additional questions may be asked. Both form and content are assessed in an oral examination. It is useful to start by presenting the outline of your answer. Showing legible, clean diagrams with a title and orientation during the oral presentation is a great help. The presentation should be clear and structured, and should be delivered calmly and at an appropriate pace. Absolute respect for nomenclature is required; the use of adjectives of orientation and anatomical description is required. Preparing diagrams without showing them to the examiner is penalizing. The student's explanations may compensate for any drawing difficulties. In terms of substance, certain errors are considered unforgivable, including: incomplete study, errors of orientation or topography, descriptions that are incompatible with the function of the organ, and the absence of fundamental structures in the description of an anatomical region. Students are strongly encouraged to take and pass their exam in the first session. Indeed, during the August session, the material contingencies (number of days available, number of registered students, etc.) mean that each student has less time available for his or her exam. Students who arrive at the time and date indicated in the examination notice, and who sign their paper without answering, receive an "attendance mark". Students who do not attend at the time and date specified are marked "absent". The exact modalities of the assessment are subject to change when the examination timetable is being drawn up, depending on practical constraints that the faculty administration may face, or in case of illness/force majeure/emergency with a placement, or because of the health situation related to the coronavirus.

The official version of the syllabus and the illustrative diagrams of the course is the one available on the Webcampus website; versions from previous years are of no value. It seems that course summaries are circulated among students: none of them have been validated by the teacher.
