Today, we meet Michaël Lobet, currently a lecturer at UNamur, who will begin his new mandate as a qualified FNRS researcher at the NISM Institute next fall. The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) published a report (August 2022) which lists and assesses the different values we place on nature. This is a huge task carried out over three years by experts from all over the world, including Nicolas Dendoncker, professor at the Department of geography and member of the ILEE Institute at the UNamur.

With its expertise in the field of geology and biodiversity conservation, the UNamur is one of the partners of the new Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse National Park designated by the Walloon Government. Alongside the other actors and promoters of the project, the UNamur will make its knowledge and experience available to enhance and preserve this exceptional natural heritage!

When a tumour develops in an organism, it is very common for the cancer cells to leave the tumour and move to another organ where they proliferate, creating what are known as metastases. This process is an important factor in mortality, as it means that the disease worsens. Hence the interest in better understanding what happens during this phenomenon. This is what the multidisciplinary team of Carine Michiels, researcher at the NARILIS Institute of UNamur, and Davide Bonifazi, researcher at the University of Vienna, did in the framework of the PACMAN research project financed by the FNRS. The results of this study are published in the journal Neoplasia.

Mohamed Chellegui (University of Sfax) and Yathreb Naghmouchi (University of Carthage), PhD students of Tunisian origin, have just completed their research stays at the Laboratory of Theoretical Chemistry of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Namur (NISM Institute) under the supervision of Professor Benoît Champagne. François Briard graduated in Law and Management of Information Technology (DGTIC) in 1994 after obtaining his bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science in 1993. He works at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, the world's largest particle physics laboratory. During his schooling, which was 100% at UNamur, he was vice-president of the Namur Region and student delegate during his application years in economic and social sciences, computer science option. Thanks to the multidisciplinary training provided at UNamur, he was able to seize several opportunities to reorient his career within CERN.

The Namurians of the Year for 2022 are known! Organised by the ASBL "Namurois de l'année" in partnership with the magazine AlluMeuse, the "Namurois de l'année" ceremony has just unveiled the Namur personalities who have distinguished themselves over the past year. And among them, in the science category, we find Anthony Cleve, professor in the Faculty of Computer Science.

From 17 April 2023, UNamur will host two prestigious international Francqui Chairs. Professor Timoteo Carletti (Department of Mathematics - naXys Institute) will host Professor Ginestra Bianconi, one of the leading experts on networks and high-order structures. Professor Romain Houssa (Faculty of Economics, Social Sciences and Management - DeFiPP Institute) will welcome Professor Karel Mertens, an expert in macroeconomics.
