Learning outcomes

The internship is organised during the month of June. In order to get the full benefit of this internship, the student must be fully available at this time (which means no exams to present in the residual session); in addition, he/she must master the notions of semiology, cardiovascular pathology, pneumology, clinical pharmacology and medical psychology courses, among others. The internship is only available to students at the end of their cycle. A student is at the end of the cycle when his or her EAP includes the last teaching units (TUs) for which he or she must acquire credits in order to obtain the academic degree.

Goals

This tutorial allows the student to be in direct and personal contact with a general practitioner, his tutor, and to observe, in the most concrete and realistic way possible, the practice of general medicine, in order to : • to assess the way in which theoretical knowledge is put into practice; • understand the concrete aspects of the doctor-patient relationship; • putting professional secrecy into practice ; • to reflect on their future personal medical practice.

Content

During this tutorial, the student should be able to : Communication • Establishing basic contact with the patient • Demonstrate listening and understanding • Adopt an appropriate and respectful attitude Organisation • Respect the instructions given by the tutor • Comply with the operating procedures of the tutoring location and safety requirements • Respect confidentiality rules and the professional • Identify the different roles of the GP and the limitations of the profession Practical and scientific aspects • Carry out tasks that are feasible at their level of competence • Search for relevant information to complement one's observation

Teaching methods

This is a minimum 120-hour internship, during which the student accompanies a doctor in the field in the practice of general medicine.

Very important note: if the student's medical examination at CESI is not in order and/or the student has not been vaccinated in good time, and/or if the placement agreement has not been returned to the secretariat within the time limit set by the committee, the student will not be allowed to start the placement; it is the student's responsibility to show that he/she is in order in this respect.

Assessment method

There are two aspects to student assessment:

- an assessment of the trainee by his/her GP tutor, worth 10 points out of the 20 of the final mark

- an oral examination, assessed by a member of the UNamur GP traineeship committee, worth 10 points of the final mark.

To prevent the student from missing out on one of the two aspects of this assessment, the overall mark will be a maximum of 9.00/20 if one of the two sub-scores is less than 10.00/20.

Students must return their placement assessment to both the Placement Committee and their placement tutor by a specified deadline. As a general rule, any delay on the part of the student in any of the stages of preparation and/or execution of the placement will result in a penalty on the final mark.

If the practical part of the placement is not validated by the committee, a make-up placement of 120 hours will be organised between 30 June and 15 August.

If the candidate fails the oral examination, a make-up oral assessment will be organised during the August examination session.
