About

Biography

Grégoire Wieërs is a physician specializing in general internal medicine. He contributes to the care of people suffering from multiple pathologies, whether due to systemic diseases or related to disabilities. He teaches physiology at the University of Namur, where he develops research on sustainable development pedagogy in the medical student curriculum. He holds the position of Director of the Department of Medicine there.

Grégoire Wieërs graduated from the UCLouvain Faculty of Medicine in 2007, where he initially focused on autoimmune diseases and transplant immunity. He subsequently continued his research in cancer immunology at the Ludwig Institute during his doctorate in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. He received his PhD in 2011. These "bench-to-bedside" research activities have led him to publish several articles in renowned scientific journals, such as The Lancet, Cancer Research, and Liver Transplantation, as well as in national scientific journals.

His research has been cited in peer-reviewed journals and contributes to a better understanding of how it is possible, starting today, to practice medicine for a resilient healthcare system, contributing to a healthy and welcoming environment for everyone, based on the solid foundations of data acquired through scientific research.

New "One Health" teaching unit and Sustainable Development and Transformation Education Days (JEDDT)

Currently, Grégoire Wieërs practices clinical practice in general internal medicine and teaches physiology of the endocrine glands and the digestive tract. His recent research is driven by the health-environment nexus, such as the implementation of the One Health model and the Sustainable Development Goals in human medicine, by creating links with the research and teaching activities of the UNamur Faculty of Medicine. This perception of sustainable development in healthcare is profoundly humanistic. He translates it into a clinical component with the development of a consultation for adults living with Down syndrome and a research and teaching component.

He coordinates the new "One Health" teaching unit and the Sustainable Development and Transformation Education Days (JEDDT) with Professor Amélie Lachapelle. He also develops these aspects in interuniversity training courses in clinical nutrition and Sustainable Healthcare, "Acting to Transform," coordinated by UCLouvain.
