Biography
Hendrik Vuye was born in Ronse (Ronse) on January 22, 1962.
After completing his humanities studies at the Sint-Catharinacollege in Geraardsbergen (Grammont), he earned a Master's degree in Law (1986), a Master's degree in Criminology (1986), and a Master's degree in Philosophy (1988). Since June 2, 1993, he has a doctorate in Law from the University of Leuven, with a doctoral thesis on "Possession and Possessive Protection of Real Estate and Real Estate Rights" (Projects: J. Kokelenberg & F. Van Neste s.J. of the University of Antwerp).
Having spent his youth in Ronse and Grammont, he is a true "Flandrien," that is, a committed cyclosportive cyclist. He even holds a bicycle mechanic's diploma ("Certificaat Fietsenmaker"), awarded by the CVO De Oranjerie in Diest in 2008.
In 1993, he was appointed lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the F.U.N.D.P. in Namur, where he became the first holder of the chair of constitutional law and civil liberties (teaching). Since September 1, 2001, he has held the title of professor and the title of full professor since January 1, 2004.
In 2003, he founded the PROJUCIT Center for Fundamental Research with his colleague Marc Nihoul, of which he remained director until the end of 2007.
From 1996 to 2008, he also taught the course "Buitenlandse rechtsstelsels" at the University of Antwerp, where he was appointed "docent" in 1996, "hoofddocent" in 1998, and finally "hoogleraar" on April 1, 2001. In 1997-98, he also taught "Property Law" at the University of Antwerp (U.I.A.).
From November 13, 2007, to August 31, 2009, he was Dean of the new Faculty of Law at Hasselt University. In this capacity, he founded this new faculty, which enrolled 274 students in its first academic year (2008-2009).
He is married to Sophie Stijns, a Full Professor at K.U. Leuven and chair of the Law of Obligations. Together, they published the standard work on neighborhood disturbances in 2000.
Hendrik Vuye is the author of numerous publications, primarily in public and civil law. He is also a member of the editorial board of several academic journals: Chroniques de droit public and La revue belge de droit constitutionnel. For many years, he was a member of the editorial board of Recente arresten van het Hof van Cassatie and the Journal des Juges de paix et de police. From 1998 to 2003, he was editor-in-chief of the prestigious Belgian Civil Law Review (Revue générale de droit civil belge - Tijdschrift voor Belgisch Burgerlijk Recht), where he currently serves on the editorial board of the journal "Synergie droit public - droit privé" (Synergy of Public Law - Private Law). He is also a member of the Interuniversitair Centre for Wetgeving and a director of the Flemish Pleitgenootschap (Vlaams Pleitgenootschap).
