No matter how advanced your project is, IP helps protect research results. It is essential to determine which IP rights will be made available to the other partners to carry out the project.

Documents available

ADRE can guide you in specifying the rights of use and defining the broad outlines concerning the results that could be generated as part of the project, such as: their attribution, the rights of other partners, co-ownership rules...

Once the research project has begun,

  • The laboratory notebook (paper and electronic) is a vital tool for capitalizing on the intellectual heritage within our institution.
  • Prior art searching is a means of identifying the prior art closest to your invention. Such a search is essential before filing a patent application.
  • The invention announcement and declaration enable researchers to communicate their inventions to ADRE. ADRE will then be able to evaluate, with the researcher, the invention, its patentability and its commercial potential.
  • Want to test your copyright knowledge? A quiz on plagiarism is at your disposal.

Protecting results

Search results are also protected by IP rights. You can choose between:

  • Copyright, which applies to publications, graphic and artistic works and software
  • A patent: protection of an invention
  • A design or model: protection of a product or product appearance
  • A plant variety right: protection of a new plant variety
  • A semiconductor topography (smart cards)
  • A specific database right
  • A trademark
