Learning outcomes

The General Immunology course aims to provide future doctors with a basic understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of immunity.

Goals

The General Immunology course aims to provide future doctors, pharmacists and researchers with a basic knowledge of the fundamental mechanisms of immunity in order to be able to deepen the discipline through independent learning.

Content

Chapter 1: The immune system (overview of players, setting, accessories) Chapter 2: Immunoglobulins (including therapeutic monoclonal antibodies) Chapter 3: Antigen-antibody reactions Chapter 4: The Major Histocompatibility Complex Chapter 5: B cell development (including immunoglobulin genetics) Chapter 6: T cell development Chapter 7: T-cell activation Chapter 8: B cell activation (including cooperation between ly B and lyT) Chapter 9: effector mechanisms of cellular immunity Chapter 10: effector mechanisms of humoral immunity (including the complement cascade) Chapter 11: immune tolerance Chapter 12: Communication between immune cells (cytokines, etc.) Chapter 13: Natural immunity Chapter 14: Laboratory tests using immunological reactions

Assessment method

Theoretical examination in June and September. In June and September, this is a written MCQ/QRM type assessment of twenty to thirty questions (with bonus/malus) + one open question requiring an answer in the form of a diagram. The MCQ/QRM is worth 15 out of 20 points and the open question is worth 5 out of 20 points. The exact modalities of the assessment are subject to change when the examination timetable is drawn up, depending on the practical constraints that the faculty administration may face, or in the event of illness/force majeure/emergency with a placement, preventing the student from taking the examination on the date initially scheduled.
