Created in memory of the founder of the Department of Biology, the Fonds Adrien Bauchau has been promoting excellence in life sciences research since 1989. As it prepares to blow out its 35th birthday candle, the Fund is rolling out new initiatives to promote the development of biology at UNamur.

QUALIblood develops a blood test to assess a woman's eligibility for the contraceptive pill
A team from QUALIblood, a University of Namur spin-off and the Department of Pharmacy has developed a blood test that assesses the risk of developing thrombosis. It is specifically aimed at women wishing to take a contraceptive pill or hormone treatment for the menopause. The development of this test and its availability to healthcare professionals is a world first!

FED-tWIN funding programmes - Two is better than one!
Since 2019, the Federal Science Policy (BELSPO) has been funding FED-tWIN research programmes, run jointly by Federal Scientific Establishments and universities throughout Belgium. UNamur has been awarded two of them. One for the PraME research centre dedicated to the study of medieval writing practices and linked to the PaTHs Institute.

The Faculty of Law's "Fil Rouge": a unique educational project!
It's a first in terms of pedagogical approach: getting all the students and teaching staff at the Faculty of Law, across all blocks and programs, to work on a single theme over the course of an academic year. From lectures and practical work to conferences, cultural events and civic engagement, many of the activities offered by the Faculty of Law focus on a single theme.

Jean Bottu: on land and in the air, he heals premature and intensive care babies
Pediatrician specializing in neonatology, Jean Bottu divides his time between the Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Air Rescue association. In hospital, by ambulance or by plane, he cares for premature babies and children in intensive care. He also helped set up the Luxembourg branch of Médecin du Monde.

Biodiversity and the value of nature: geographer Nicolas Dendoncker co-authors a major international publication
The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has just published a study in the prestigious journal Nature, listing and assessing the different values we place on nature. Nicolas Dendoncker, professor in the Department of Geography and member of the ILEE Institute at UNamur, is one of the co-authors.

UCLouvain and UNamur form alliance to strengthen research and teaching
UNamur and UCLouvain have formed a university alliance. This university alliance, Louvain Namur ensemble (AULNE), brings together 48,000 students, i.e. almost 45% of university students in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, as well as more than 8,000 members of staff. The aim? To step up existing collaboration in research and teaching, with the aim of achieving ever greater quality and relevance, for the benefit of students and society as a whole. In concrete terms, this is not a merger but a coming together to defend shared values and a common university model.

Visit from a delegation from the China Association of Higher Education
On 22 September 2023, the University of Namur welcomed a delegation from the China Association of Higher Education (CAHE) of the People's Republic of China. Among them was Prof. Chunhua Yan, President of Lanzhou University, one of China's most prestigious universities.
