A publication on light observation in Nature Communications

What is a perfect fluid? It is a theoretical model of a fluid that allows us to assume that the fluid is not viscous, that it does not conduct heat, that it is incompressible and does not create vortices. It is therefore an approximation of reality that simplifies theoretical predictions of fluid flows. For the first time, an international team has experimentally demonstrated this same behaviour for light immersed in a medium of low refractive index.

An innovative and multifunctional coating developed at the UNamur

This is a technical and scientific feat that has just been patented at the UNamur. Researchers from the Laboratory of Analysis by Nuclear Reactions (LARN), the Department of Physics of UNamur (NISM Institute) and the spin-off Innovative Coating Solutions (ICS) have succeeded in developing a carbon-based coating with innovative properties that can be used in a wide range of fields, including fuel cells, decoration, and mechanical parts for automobiles.

Parchment bindings under the microscope

To restore an old book correctly, it is essential to know the secrets of its manufacture and the reasons for its deterioration. Thanks to the King Baudouin Foundation's Jean-Jacques Comhaire Fund, the restoration workshop of the Moretus Plantin University Library has launched a new research project on parchment bindings in the Southern Netherlands in the 16th and 17th centuries. The aim is to gain a better understanding in order to improve conservation.

The physicochemistry of parchment and inks - experimental and historical approaches.

will take place from September 2 to 6, 2024 at the Gîte du domaine d'Haugimont (owned by the University of Namur) and will deal with medieval manuscripts in their material and historical aspects (parchment and ink manufacture). The event is aimed at historians, archaeologists and researchers in the physical and chemical sciences. Participation is free for doctoral students attached to FNRS doctoral schools in the disciplines concerned. At the crossroads of archaeology, history and the exact sciences, this colloquium-workshop will give the floor to three speakers (a physicist, a chemist and a historian) who will present the interdisciplinary research they are conducting together in this field. Interdisciplinary collaboration with subject specialists is a key component in the didactics of "Languages for Specific Purposes" (LSP). For LSP teachers, this collaboration makes it possible to devise contextualized courses that integrate both linguistic objectives and disciplinary content. By basing their teaching on a thorough needs analysis, LSP teachers design tailor-made didactic content that precisely meets the communicative requirements of learners in their specialist field.However, the position of LSP teachers within the institution can sometimes make such collaborations less obvious; moreover, it is often LSP teachers who initiate and support exchanges. This workshop aims to deepen understanding of the aforementioned collaborative dynamics, with the aim of improving student learning outcomes by strengthening interdisciplinary connections and fostering an integrated didactic approach.

From its formal appearance in the 3rd year of general secondary education in FW-B, the chemistry course takes the form of a program detailing a series of contents to be taught. Within the framework of an internal didactic transposition specific to their activity, teachers are led to estimate their relative importance in the curriculum and to transform them. In the midst of a pandemic or following a prolonged absence, what content will teachers retain, adapt or delete?This research project proposes to study this prioritization of the content to be taught in the chemistry course by the teaching staff. More specifically, this paper focuses on the construction and analysis of a questionnaire investigating the organization of the main chapters (UAA) by chemistry teachers.
