Since 2012, AEQES has been responsible for formative assessments of program quality and quality processes related to programs organized within the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. UNamur's various curricula are therefore regularly evaluated by the agency, on the basis of a 6-year cycle.

As part of the GSS, and in order to evaluate the various programs, each faculty is required to submit a self-evaluation dossier to EQASA. Subsequently, experts commissioned by EQTA are frequently sent on site to carry out formative assessments of the curricula. These visits take place according to a schedule predefined by the agency.

These assessments are based on five criteria: governance and quality policies, program relevance, internal program coherence, efficiency and equity and, finally, reflexivity and continuous improvement.

.

Programmatic evaluation stages

  • Each faculty submits a self-evaluation report presenting the Institution, its strengths and weaknesses to be improved to EQSA.
  • An initial visit by experts (lasting 2 to 3 days depending on the Institution) is organized.
  • These experts submit a preliminary report.
  • The Faculty has a right of reply and may point out factual errors in this report.
  • The experts submit their final report and overall opinion on avenues for improvement.
  • They carry out a cross-sectional analysis.
  • On the basis of the experts' recommendations, the faculty defines an action plan.

Past and future program evaluations

During 2019, the Faculty of Economic, Social and Management Sciences and the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters successfully received a follow-up visit from the AEQES expert committee. The Department of Veterinary Medicine, for its part, received a visit from the AEEEV organization for the follow-up evaluation of its curriculum.

The Biomedical Sciences curriculum received its first visit from the committee of experts commissioned by EQAA at the beginning of November 2019, as part of its initial formative evaluation. The experts' report highlights a high-quality curriculum, supported by a dynamic and committed team, but deplores the fact that this curriculum is still so little known by students, both in terms of the skills developed and concerning the professional outlets to which this training leads.

Following the experts' visit and based on their report, an action plan has been defined by the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

During 2020, it was the turn of the Biology/Biochemistry curricula to receive the experts for an initial on-site evaluation visit. This visit, initially scheduled for March 17 and 18, had to be moved to late October and scheduled by videoconference due to the health crisis. This was the first time that this format had been used by both EQTA and our Institution. This visit, although entirely remote, went very well and demonstrated the adaptability of our teaching to the health context.

After submitting its self-evaluation report, the Faculty of Medicine received a visit from the committee of experts mandated by EQHA for the initial formative evaluation of the curriculum. Originally scheduled for the end of March 2021, this visit finally took place in October due to the health crisis.
