Learning outcomes

• Master various methods for spatial data analysis in vector and raster format

• Use basic spatial data analysis tools

• Work with a GIS software

Goals

Acquire a knowledge of the GIS vocabulary and a global view of the possibilities offered by GIS in terms of acquisition, storage and analysis of spatial data, especially through different examples of GIS projects.

Content

  • Introduction to Geographical Information Systems
  • Raster and vector based data
  • Spatial Data sources
  • Data preparation
  • Spatial Analyses (spatial measures, overlays, mathematical operations, etc.)
  • Examples of GIS projects

Exercices

Content of exercices:

  • Familiarization with the ArcGis software and map production
  • Importation and data handling
  • Analyses of vectorial data
  • Analyses in raster format
  • Integrative exercises and problem resolution project

Assessment method

Written exam (theory; 40% of final mark) and practical exam on a computer (60% of final mark).

The evaluation is similar for the second session. All students who fail in the first session must retake both parts of the exam, even if they passed one of the two parts in the first session.
