- understanding of sociological concepts - ability to use concepts to analyse materials from the contemporary world
The course has two objectives: - to teach the student to actively use the sociological concepts studied in order to analyse the social world that is his or her own and his or her place in that world - to open the student to a critical approach to sociology
The course allows the student to discover some important authors of the sociological thought around two questions: that of the identity (study of P.Bourdieu and E.Goffman) and that of the social link (F.Tönnies, M.Weber, J.Godbout and R. Sennett), by taking care each time to compare the point of view of the various authors to reach a critical distance. Two common threads will run through all the presentations, that of gender and that of the ecological transition, which will be one of the means of updating the contribution of the authors selected in relation to these two important issues of contemporary societies.
A written exam allows students to be assessed on the two defined objectives via : - an open book question consisting of an exercise (based on those carried out in the practical sessions) - two closed book questions comparing authors or criticizing them (verifying the students' ability to stand back critically)
