Have you been selected for a study, training or research stay at a partner institution in a country outside the European Union? In most cases, you'll need a visa. Different types of visa may be required depending on the destination and purpose of the stay (study, company internship, laboratory internship, research...).
Insurance
Health and travel insurance
If you're going to study in another member state of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you can access healthcare in that state, provided you have the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
If you don't yet have an EHIC, ask your mutual insurance company for one already, as you'll need to provide a copy of this card when you put together your admission file for the host university and, of course, you'll need to take it with you on your trip.
If you are going to study in any other country, you should first check with your health insurance fund to clearly identify your needs beforehand, and check the options offered. Then, we advise you to contact the relevant departments at your future host institution, to check whether there are any special health and travel insurance requirements for enrolling as an exchange student.
Before you leave, it's important to take out complementary assistance-type insurance that includes coverage for medical expenses and travel insurance. This insurance guarantees effective protection during your stay abroad, including in the event of an accident, repatriation, early return, loss or theft of your papers, worries with your luggage...
Public liability and personal accident insurance
If you are regularly registered with UNamur, you are covered by:
- civil liability insurance (RC)
- "bodily accident" insurance
during your academic, extra-academic activities, travel, internships, courses and stays abroad (e.a. Erasmus...), as well as on the way to and from these activities, as long as these take place with the agreement of the University.
Visa
As soon as your selection has been confirmed, consult:
and
- the website pages of the Consulate or Embassy of your host country, to check visa requirements. Indeed, the procedure for obtaining a visa can vary from one country to another.
It is your host institution that will provide you with the documents you need to submit your visa application. It's very important to follow the instructions you receive from your host institution and to respect the deadlines.
If you are enrolled at UNamur and are selected for a stay abroad, but are not of Belgian nationality, check with the embassy of your home country to ascertain what travel documents you will need for your stay abroad.
If you have any doubts or problems, you can contact the International Relations Department team, who are on hand to help you put together your file.
