Welcome to the Department of Physics!

We do theoretical and digital physics. We specialize in photonics, the quantum science of light. We are in the era of the second quantum revolution. There is a craze for a better understanding of light-matter interactions from a fundamental point of view in order to cope with the next generation of quantum devices. This is where our adventure begins. Our tools are theoretical physics, including analytical modeling and numerical simulations, as close as possible to experiments. The group is also developing research activities in the science of teaching and learning, as well as scientific outreach.

The research team is led by Principal Investigator (PI) Professor Michaël Lobet, Qualified Researcher FNRS, who is a member of the LPS, and is also affiliated with the NISM (Pôle de recherche NOP). It is made up of post-doctoral researchers, PhD students and Master's students, whose composition varies from year to year and depending on the project.It aims to be as diverse and inclusive as possible. It is also very proud of its alumni network, which has grown over time and contributed greatly to the team's development. Dedicated to excellence, the research team has been the recipient of numerous prizes and awards. .

A department of philosophy within the Faculty of Science, it develops reflections on the epistemological, ethical, social, political and cultural issues of science and technology.

The Biology Department, with its 17 permanent professors, conducts cutting-edge international scientific research. This is divided between 4 research units addressing a variety of themes in cellular and molecular biology, molecular microbiology, environmental and evolutionary biology, and didactics.

The Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Research Unit (URBE) operates as a collaborative ecosystem, bringing together skills to advance research on organisms and their dynamic interactions with the environment. Its vocation is to study aquatic organisms and their interactions with the environment. It combines comparative biology (several species studied) and integrative biology (several levels of biological integration).

The activities of the Unité de Méthodologie et de Didactique de la Biologie (URDB) revolve around two poles.

The research activities of the Department of Geography, carried out in both the North and South, contribute to the transition towards sustainable and resilient spaces in order to improve the well-being of populations in terms of health, food, natural resources, security, social relations and freedom of choice.
