Doelstellingen

This course will first give a historical, economical and biological overview of the discovery of antibiotics. It will also address the different molecular mechanisms of antibiotics action as well as the rapid emergence of antibiotics resistance, the biological mechanisms underlining this emergence and how the antibiotic-resistant bacteria are considered as a threat to morbidity and mortality worldwide.

Inhoud

The content of this course will depend on the field of expertise of the invited speakers and may slightly vary from year to year.

Evaluatiemethode

Before each session, the student will be asked to read an article and to actively participate to the critical analysis of this article. This part will account for 40 % of the final grade.

At the last session, each student will be asked to present in 10 minutes a project of their choice (related to the content of the course), followed by a 20 minutes critical analysis of a scientific article. This project will account for 60 % of the final grade.
