Leerresultaten

This second part of the introductory course in classical electromagnetism is intended for students in the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry programme. It aims to provide an understanding of the fundamental concepts, thus laying the foundation for more advanced courses. The role of the course is to place particular emphasis on the importance of rigour in scientific reasoning, and to show the importance of observation and calculation in the treatment of physics problems

Inhoud

Alternating currents: notion of complex impedance. Study of passive circuits in steady state. Study of the R- L-C circuit in transient regime. Magnetic properties of matter (types of magnetic materials, definition of permeability and susceptibility, properties of magnetic materials, hysteresis). Transformers. Introduction to X-rays. The dB scale Amplitude modulation The p-n junction, the bipolar transistor, the field effect transistor,

Evaluatiemethode

A practical examination is organised (no separate examination for theory). This exam aims at checking the student's experimental skills but also the understanding of the concepts necessary for the proper conduct and explanation of the experiments. The student will also have to answer some multiple choice questions which he/she will have had the opportunity to practice during the year. Finally, the evaluation of the individual laboratory notebook will be included in the final grade.
